Caught Thanks to Public Tips and Police Persistence

Long Stretch for Armed Robber — Justice Served
Piper received 13 years for aggravated burglary, plus four years each for the taxi robberies and six and a half years for each newsagent attack. The sentences run concurrently, with Piper required to serve at least two-thirds before parole.
Detective Inspector Steve Franklin, Southend CID, said: “Piper targeted hardworking people just doing their job during a tough time for small businesses. His greed caused significant harm.”
“Carrying a knife is unacceptable. Piper’s violent crimes earn him an extra five years on licence. To anyone carrying knives: it’s never too late to turn your life around. Use your local knife bin and seek help from charities like Fearless.”
