Man Jailed for Murder of Young Mum Who Was Stabbed Multiple Times
Daniel Grant Smith has been locked up for at least 17-and-a-half years after pleading guilty to murdering 29-year-old Imogen Bohajczuk in Oldham.
Tragic Discovery After Weeks of Fear
Police were called to Ashton Road at around 12:15pm on Thursday 4 March 2021 following concerns for Imogen’s welfare. Friends hadn’t heard from her since mid-February and forced entry into her flat revealed a chilling scene. Imogen was found lifeless in bed, suffering multiple stab wounds.
Abuse Reported Before Deadly Attack
Imogen, a devoted mum with a young son, had shared the flat with Smith since June 2020. In February 2021, she reported multiple assaults by Smith to the police, including one from November 2020 that left marks on her neck and wrists.
Cold-Blooded Killer Tried to Cover His Tracks
A post-mortem revealed Imogen had been stabbed three times, any one of which could have been fatal. Strangulation marks were also found around her neck. Smith tried to hide his crime by using Imogen’s mobile phone and debit card to buy petrol and make calls throughout February.
Justice Served, Family Left to Grieve
Smith was arrested on 5 March with the victim’s debit card on him. Detective Inspector Andy Naismith of GMP’s Major Incident Team said:
“This was a brutal and cowardly attack on a defenceless woman. Smith has rightly been jailed for life. He showed no remorse and tried to cover his tracks. The family are now left dealing with an unimaginable loss — nothing will bring them peace.”
