Tourist Murdered in Brutal Oxford Circus Stabbing

Tedi Fanta Hagos, 27, unleashed a savage attack on Stephen Dempsey, 60, an innocent tourist from Leigh-on-Sea, right in the heart of Oxford Circus, London.

On 1 July 2021, just before 8pm, police were called to reports of a stabbing near the busy intersection of Oxford Circus and Regent Street. Paramedics and the London Air Ambulance rushed to the scene, but Stephen’s stab wounds were fatal. He was pronounced dead at hospital.

Random Attack Shocks Londoners

Stephen was out sightseeing when Hagos launched the unprovoked assault. CCTV showed two brave men stepping in, striking Hagos with their skateboards in a desperate bid to stop the attack. Despite their courage, Stephen’s injuries proved deadly.

Justice Served at the Old Bailey

Hagos was caught at the scene and later found guilty of murder at the Old Bailey on 1 February. The judge ordered he be detained indefinitely under the Mental Health Act in a secure hospital.

Detectives Praise Brave Bystanders

“My heart goes out to Stephen’s family, especially his mother, who lost him in such terrible circumstances,” said Detective Chief Inspector Geoff Grogan.

“While the pain remains, I hope Stephen’s family can find some comfort knowing people tried to help him when it mattered most. The two brave men and two others who stepped in deserve full recognition.”

“I also want to thank my team of detectives, who worked tirelessly to bring justice for Stephen.”

The chilling motive behind this random attack remains unknown, but the community applauds those who risked their lives to stop the deadly assault.
