Armed Rapist Caught and Sent Down for 20 Years
Richard Scaife’s reign of terror ended on a Friday afternoon, November 5, 2021. Armed police swooped on Tontine Street and hauled him in. The 46-year-old from Camden Crescent, Dover, faced serious charges: two counts of rape and possession of an imitation firearm during the offence.
Horrific Attack on Sex Worker
Scaife arranged to meet a woman working as a sex worker. But when they reached a flat in Folkestone, the nightmare began. He grabbed her by the throat, threatened her with a knife, and raped her. He then pulled out a gun, locked the door, and attacked her again. Eventually, the victim convinced him to leave.
She immediately called police. Officers arrested Scaife as he drove away.
Stockpile of Weapons Found
In his car, cops found a folding knife, bayonet, imitation firearm, and duct tape strips hidden inside his jacket. The search of his home uncovered chilling extras: a knuckleduster, samurai sword, machete, and more fake guns.
“Scaife put this victim through a terrifying ordeal. I’d also like to praise her bravery in helping our investigation and prosecution,” said Detective Sergeant Dan Barker of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.
Scaife’s arsenal and actions reveal a dangerous predator who threatened women and girls. Kent Police say his swift arrest and the weapons seizure underline their commitment to keeping communities safe.
“Every woman and girl deserves to feel safe,” added the force. “Combating violence against them is our top priority.”
