Toddler Killed in Heysham Gas Explosion: Man Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter
A tragic gas explosion ripped through a Heysham house, killing a toddler and leaving chaos in its wake. Now, a man has admitted manslaughter over the deadly blast.
Blast Collapses Homes in Early Morning Horror
At around 2.40 a.m. on May 16, 2021, emergency crews rushed to Mallowdale Avenue after reports of an explosion. They found two houses completely collapsed and a third seriously damaged.
Little George Arthur Hinds, just two years and ten months old, died in the blast. His family remains in the thoughts of everyone involved.
George’s parents suffered injuries but were not seriously hurt. They received hospital treatment and have ongoing support from specially trained officers.
Investigation Uncovers Gas Pipe Tampering
Detectives and gas experts launched a criminal probe, revealing the explosion was caused by a gas pipe deliberately cut inside 20 Mallowdale Avenue.
Four arrests followed in October. Sharon Greenham, 52, and Darren Greenham, 44, both from Ambleside Avenue, Lancaster, were charged in December with manslaughter and theft linked to gas meter tampering.
Darren Greenham Pleads Guilty; Sharon Greenham Faces Trial
On August 24, Darren Greenham appeared before Judge Robert Altham at Preston Crown Court. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter and theft charges and was remanded in custody pending sentencing.
Sharon Greenham is set to stand trial on October 4 at Preston Crown Court.
