Swindon Man Arrested for Wearing Terror Group T-Shirts in London
Feras Al Jayoosi, 34, from Swindon, sparked outrage after being spotted sporting T-shirts linked to terrorist groups in Golders Green, north London. On Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 June, he was seen wearing shirts emblazoned with the logos of Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and Hamas’s Izz al-Din al-Qassem Brigades—both banned terrorist organisations.
Police Swift to Act After Public Reports
Local residents reported the alarming sightings, prompting the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command (SO15) to launch an immediate investigation. Officers quickly identified Al Jayoosi and arrested him at his home on Friday 11 June.
Further checks revealed he had also worn the Hamas T-shirt back in Swindon on Sunday 30 May.
Charged Over Terror Support
On Wednesday 27 October, Al Jayoosi was formally charged. At Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 12 November, he admitted to four counts of wearing articles—namely the T-shirts—that could reasonably arouse suspicion he supported a proscribed organisation, breaching the Terrorism Act 2000.
He was released on conditional bail and is set for sentencing on Friday 17 December.
Police Urge Public to Speak Up
“Al Jayoosi’s actions caused a great deal of concern within local communities, and an investigation was quickly launched as a result of a call to police,” said Commander Richard Smith, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command.
“This case further underlines how important information from communities is to our work, and how seriously we take reports of this nature. I would urge anyone with concerns or suspicions about crime in their neighbourhood to call police – we will listen, and we will act.”
