A Southampton Man Has Been Jailed For 30 Months For Assaulting His Ex-partner

Benjamin Evetts, 27, of HMP Winchester, appeared in Southampton Crown Court yesterday (4 August) after pleading guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm and criminal damage to property worth less than £5000.

He received a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence.

Evetts showed up at his ex-flat partner’s on the afternoon of June 15, this year. He pushed her over and kneeled over her when she opened the door, putting his thumb to her windpipe, causing her to struggle to breathe. He then snatched her phone from her grasp, preventing her from calling the police.

Evetts left for about 45 minutes, and when he returned, he caused criminal damage to her address and gained access once more.

He grabbed her throat and pushed her to the ground again, this time using her hair to bang her head against the wall while spitting at her.

After receiving a call from a neighbour, police arrived and arrested Evetts near the scene.

“Evetts’ actions and behaviour were appalling,” said PC Romany Cushing, who led the investigation.

“We will relentlessly pursue perpetrators to ensure they face justice for any form of domestic abuse or assault.”

“I hope this outcome encourages any victims of domestic abuse to come forward and assures you that your allegations will be taken seriously.”

Contact the police at 101, report online, or provide anonymous information to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or visiting their website.
