Chaos on Kent’s Main Sands: Police Patrol Car Vandalised Amid Beach Disturbance
Kent Police rushed to Main Sands beach in Margate on the afternoon of Friday, June 17, 2022, to break up a series of disturbances. During the chaos, a police patrol car had its roof and bonnet damaged while officers tried to disperse unruly groups on the sand.
Two Arrested Over Beach Brawl and Mayhem
Taylor Westwood, 22, with no fixed address, was arrested and charged with criminal damage linked to the incident. He’s since been bailed and will face Margate Magistrates’ Court on Friday, July 29.
Another man, 62-year-old Russell Williams from Eaton Place, Margate, was charged with assault by beating and being drunk and disorderly. He is also out on bail and due in court on Tuesday, July 5.
Police Pledge Tough Stance on Anti-Social Behaviour
“We do not tolerate anti-social behaviour and officers will always work to arrest suspects and bring them before the courts,” said Chief Inspector Matthew Smith, Thanet District Commander.
“We recognise the negative impact it can have on an area, and we are committed to working with our partner agencies this summer to keep Thanet a safe place to be.”
