Teen Jailed for Brutal Homophobic Knife Attack Outside Canterbury Takeaway
Knife-Wielding 16-Year-Old Strikes After Hate-Fuelled Row
Jack Green, 16, of Pye Alley Lane, Whitstable, attacked a young woman in Union Street, Canterbury, following a heated altercation outside a takeaway in October 2021. The trouble kicked off at around 2.30am on October 23rd when Green and his friends started hurling homophobic abuse after one of the victim’s friends revealed his sexuality.
Bricks, Bottles and a Knife Turn Violent
When the victim and her group tried to leave, Green and his crew followed them. They armed themselves with items grabbed from a nearby phone box and began throwing bricks and bottles. Tensions escalated when Green pulled out a small knife and stabbed the woman in the chest before fleeing with his gang.
Swift Police Action Nets Conviction and Jail Time
CCTV footage quickly led police to identify Green, who was arrested just three hours later. He pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and using threatening behaviour. On January 6th, 2022, a judge sentenced Green to four and a half years behind bars.
PC Byzid Al-Mahmood, Kent Police investigator, said: “This was a heinous attack on a young woman who was trying to defend her friend after Green’s appalling comments. I’m pleased officers swiftly brought a dangerous offender off the streets. The victim’s bravery in court was remarkable – I hope this sentence delivers some justice.”
Inspector Guy Thompson added: “Canterbury is a welcoming city with diverse communities. Kent Police is committed to tackling hate crime and will relentlessly pursue offenders to keep our streets safe.
The victim was rushed to a London hospital and continues to suffer from complications due to the attack.
