Clapham Chemical Attack Suspect Found Dead in Thames
Abdul Ezedi, wanted for a shocking chemical attack in Clapham, was found drowned in the River Thames weeks after the horrific assault on January 31. His body was discovered on February 19 following a lengthy police search and careful review of CCTV tracing his last known movements.
Oven Cleaner Assault on Ex-Girlfriend and Kids
At around 7:30pm on January 31, Ezedi hurled caustic oven cleaner at his ex-girlfriend and her two young daughters, aged eight and three, in a terrifying chemical attack in South London. He also physically slammed the three-year-old to the ground before fleeing, sparking a major manhunt by authorities.
Suicide Ruling at Poplar Inquest
Senior Coroner Mary Hassell ruled Ezedi’s death a suicide at Poplar Coroner’s Court. She said Ezedi likely entered the Thames near Chelsea Bridge around 11:30pm the same night and drowned almost immediately. “There is no evidence he was pushed or that his fall was accidental,” Hassell confirmed.
CCTV footage captured Ezedi at King’s Cross Underground shortly after the attack and later walking alone along Upper Thames Street with no signs of others influencing his actions before his death.
Troubled Past and Community Impact
Ezedi’s dark past includes entering the UK hidden in a lorry in 2016 and being denied asylum twice before winning appeal due to his Christian conversion. In 2018, he was convicted of two sexual offences and handed a suspended sentence plus unpaid work by Newcastle Crown Court.
The brutal attack has shaken the community and Ezedi’s family alike. The Metropolitan Police, alongside local support groups, are helping victims with physical recovery and psychological support in the wake of this terrifying crime.
