East London Teen Shot Dead: Murder Probe Underway
An 18-year-old man from east London was arrested on suspicion of murder on Monday, 9 April. However, he has now been released under investigation as police continue their hunt for answers.
Shots Fired in East London
Police were called around 10pm on Monday, 2 April to Markhouse Road, E17, following reports of gunshots. Officers and paramedics found two teenage boys, aged 16 and 15, injured at the scene.
The boys were rushed to an east London hospital. The 15-year-old suffered non-life threatening wounds, but 16-year-old Amaan Shakoor was critically injured after being shot in the head.
Teen Dies After Brutal Shooting
Amaan tragically died in hospital at 5:45pm on Tuesday, 3 April. His next of kin were by his side when he passed away. A post-mortem on 6 April confirmed the cause of death as gunshot wounds to the head.
The Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command, led by Detective Chief Inspector Gary Holmes, is spearheading the investigation.
Family Desperate for Justice
“Somebody somewhere knows who committed this terrible crime and I would urge that person to come forward,” said DCI Holmes. “This murder has left Amaan’s family devastated and desperate to understand why he was taken from them. If you know or even suspect who did this, please help us bring justice for Amaan and keep our community safe.”
The victim’s family is receiving support from specialist officers and have asked for their privacy to be respected during this tragic time.
