Dorset Cop Found Guilty of Shocking Sexual Crimes

Police Officer Convicted of Multiple Sexual Offences

Police Constable Ravi Canhye, a serving Dorset Police officer, has been found guilty of horrific sexual offences, including two counts of rape. The verdict came after an eight-day trial at Winchester Crown Court, where the jury returned their decision on Wednesday, 4 October 2023.

Canhye was convicted of eight charges in total: two rapes, one attempted rape, three assaults by penetration on one woman, and one assault by touching against another. Both victims were known to the officer, making the betrayal of trust even darker.

Crimes Committed Off Duty

The offences took place in April 2022 when Canhye was off duty. Despite not being in uniform, the severity of his actions has rocked public confidence in Dorset Police. Such abuses of power highlight the urgent need for vigilance within the force.

Sentencing and Police Response

On Thursday, 5 October, the 47-year-old will return to Winchester Crown Court for sentencing. Temporary Deputy Chief Constable Rachel Farrell praised the victims for their bravery in coming forward. She said:

“Thank you to the victims for their courage in reporting these abhorrent crimes. Their strength throughout this lengthy process has been remarkable.”

Farrell stressed Dorset Police’s unwavering commitment to investigating such offences thoroughly. She highlighted the efforts of the specialist detectives involved in bringing this case to justice.

She added:

“There is absolutely no place in Dorset Police for anyone committing sexual offences, domestic abuse, or displaying any form of discriminatory or abusive behaviour.”

Canhye was suspended as soon as the allegations surfaced. He now faces formal misconduct proceedings alongside his criminal sentence. Dorset Police vow to keep rooting out wrongdoing and supporting victims every step of the way.
