Faversham Pervert Jailed for 9 Years Over Child Abuse Crimes
Disturbing Discovery Sparks Arrest
Richard Cumberland, 31, from Faversham, was locked up for nine years after admitting to 15 child sexual abuse offences. Kent Police swooped in May 2017 and uncovered more than 150 indecent images and videos on his devices.
Online Predator Tried to Meet a Child
Investigators found Cumberland had attempted to arrange a sick meeting with a child and shared vile images through internet chat rooms. He also breached a Sexual Harm Prevention Order by messaging an undercover cop posing as a teenage boy.
Justice Served at Maidstone Crown Court
The court heard he never met a child face-to-face. Cumberland, recently living in Powys, Wales, was sentenced on 7 July 2020. Besides his jail term, he faces a four-year extended licence upon release.
Detective’s Statement
“Cumberland has demonstrated a dangerous interest in young children and was ready to cause serious harm,” said Detective Constable Michelle James, lead investigator.
“He actively sought out and shared images of horrific abuse. I am pleased the strong evidence secured his guilty plea and a substantial prison sentence, putting him out of harm’s way.”
