Firefighters Attacked by Teens Twice in 24 Hours in Merseyside
UK firefighters face a terrifying new threat—not just battling flames but dodging brutal attacks from violent gangs. In Merseyside, crews were ambushed twice in a single day by teenagers hurling fireworks and even logs, forcing them to retreat and call for police backup.
Fire Crews Suffer Injuries and Damage During Attacks
On October 6, firefighters responding to a major blaze in Greenacres Park, Beechwood, were targeted with fireworks fired straight at them. Three crew members suffered temporary hearing loss, and their fire engine was damaged. Just 24 hours later, a crew tackling a smaller fire in Walton Hall Park, Walton, was assaulted again—this time with a log smashed into the back of their vehicle. Thankfully, no one was physically hurt.
Ongoing Attacks Could Delay Emergency Response
This isn’t just prankish behaviour—it’s a direct threat to those risking their lives to keep us safe. If attacks continue, Merseyside Fire and Rescue may refuse to attend emergencies without police escort. With police resources already stretched, this could mean dangerous delays, leaving communities vulnerable when seconds count.
