Ex-Drug Addict Steals Ex’s Car, Flips It Wrong-Way Down One-Way Street – Skates Jail
A former drug addict who caused chaos driving the wrong way down a Ryde one-way street has dodged prison – despite crashing headlong into another car and a wall.
Stolen Car Mayhem in Ryde
Richard Barron, 33, from the Isle of Wight, swiped his ex-partner’s white Ford Fiesta without permission. In the early hours of August 2018, he barreled down Lind Street the wrong way. Around a bend, he smashed into an oncoming Ford Transit before crashing into a wall.
Emergency crews had to cut Barron free from the wreckage after the high-speed smash.
Judge Shows Mercy Despite Serious Charges
At Isle of Wight Crown Court, Barron admitted a string of charges. He told the court he was battling mental health issues at the time.
The judge took pity, handing him an 18-month community order and a £1,000 fine – but no jail time. Barron was also banned from driving for 18 months.
