Former West Midlands Officer Gets Seven Years
Haider Siddique, 22, a trainee officer with West Midlands Police, has been locked up for over seven years after sexually abusing a vulnerable 13-year-old girl he met online. Siddique joined the force in 2021 but was caught after a vigilant bus driver spotted his suspicious behaviour in March last year.
NSPCC Condemns ‘Terrible Breach of Trust’
The shocking case sparked outrage from authorities and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC). They slammed Siddique’s targeted grooming and abuse as a “terrible breach of trust,” pointing out the grim irony that a police officer in training should have known better.
“This is a sickening betrayal of the role he was training for,” an NSPCC spokesperson said.
The bus driver’s quick thinking helped bring Siddique to justice, earning praise from the charity.
Court & Sentence Details
At Birmingham Crown Court earlier this year, Siddique admitted two counts of sexual activity with a child. He resigned from the force while in custody. Although he never served in an operational role, a misconduct hearing would have kicked him out in any case.
Lifetime Sex Offender Register & Restrictions
Deputy Chief Constable Scott Green slammed Siddique’s actions as a “sickening criminal act.” Along with his prison sentence, Siddique is on the Sex Offender Register for life. He faces a Sexual Harm Prevention Order banning internet contact with anyone under 16 and any unsupervised meetings with minors unless parents are informed about his history.
