Woman Jailed for Trying to Meet Fake Teenage Girl
A 40-year-old woman has been locked up for nearly five years after attempting to meet who she thought was a 14-year-old girl online.
Katie Birtles Busted in Police Sting
Katie Birtles from Grantham was sentenced to four years and eight months by Lincoln Crown Court on 19 May 2025. The court heard she engaged in sexual communication with the supposed 14-year-old before arranging to meet her. Unbeknownst to Birtles, the “teen” was a fake profile set up as part of a police operation to catch offenders.
Serious Charges and Court Details
Birtles pleaded guilty to:
- One count of sexual communication with a child
- One count of arranging or facilitating a child sexual offence
- Two counts of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO)
She was already under a SHPO for previous offences but broke the law by contacting a minor and planning the meeting.
Police Warn of Risks and Breach of Law
“This sentence reflects the serious nature of Birtles’ actions and the danger she posed to children. Sexual Harm Prevention Orders are designed to protect the public, and breaching them is a grave offence. We remain committed to catching and convicting those who seek to exploit children,” said a Lincolnshire Police spokesperson.
