The driver, who asked to remain anonymous, told how the drama unfolded when a white car appeared to challenge them in a deadly game of chicken. “The white car came straight at us,” he said. “Then it smashed into a tree stump and flipped on its side, crashing into my BMW.”

Two men jumped out and fled, but a third stumbled from the wreck with a knife. “My mate ran after two of them, and that’s when he got stabbed,” the driver revealed. “There was blood everywhere and he was bleeding badly.”

The driver, a Herne Bay local of ten years, admitted he was baffled by the violence. “You’d expect this in Hackney, not here. I keep myself to myself. I was just helping a mate out who called me stuck at a garage.”

With children usually heading to school along this road, the early hour may have prevented a catastrophe. Emergency services arrived at 7.15am, treating the stabbed man and securing the scene.
