Teen Guilty of Murder in Shocking London Stabbing
Romeo Mapeza, 19, from Waterman Lane, N18, was found guilty of murdering 26-year-old James Amadu. The verdict came down on Friday, 30 October, along with charges of violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon.
Co-Accused Face Mixed Verdicts
- A 16-year-old boy from Enfield was cleared of murder but convicted of manslaughter and violent disorder.
- Franklyn Amadu, 24, of Linwood Crescent, Enfield, was found guilty of violent disorder but not guilty of grievous bodily harm.
- A 20-year-old Enfield man charged with affray and violent disorder was acquitted of both charges.
Sentencing for the convicted will take place at the Old Bailey on Thursday, 3 December.
Fatal Stabbing Sparks Fear on Lavender Hill
During the trial, the court heard that James Amadu was stabbed once by Mapeza during a violent confrontation on Blossom Lane, Lavender Hill, on 31 October 2019.
Police were called at 1:03pm to reports of a stabbing. Officers and London Ambulance Service arrived to find the crime scene deserted. James later arrived at a north London hospital but tragically died at 2:21pm from his wound.
Police Praise Community After Arrest
Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith said, “This was a piece of appalling violence on a quiet Thursday afternoon that brought terror to local residents. The participants didn’t care who was nearby and sadly this shocking violence led to the death of James Amadu.”
He added, “I would like to thank those who came forward to assist the police. These convictions will reassure the community that tackling violent crime remains the Met’s priority.”
