Ex-City Medic Caught Swiping £75K of Club Gear
David McNally, 47, once a trusted paramedic for North West Ambulance Service and a long-time matchday medic at Manchester City, has been busted for nicking tens of thousands of pounds’ worth of priceless club memorabilia and kit.
Years of Theft Hidden Behind the Scenes
From June 2019 to May 2023, McNally made off with a stash that would make any fan drool, including:
- Eight signed first-team shirts, each worth around £1,000
- A signed banner from City’s glorious 2021–22 Champions League campaign
- Personalised football boots made for legends like Sergio Agüero and Aymeric Laporte
- A haul of medical gear, tracksuits, holdalls, footballs, and branded clothing
Police revealed McNally flogged hundreds of these nicked goodies online to “top up his income.”
The Crime Exposed by CCTV Slip-Up
The theft spree came crashing down after a tracksuit vanished from the women’s changing room in February 2023. CCTV caught McNally sneaking into off-limits areas. A police raid on his home in Helmshore, Lancashire, uncovered a trove of stolen items.
The total haul is valued at a massive £75,000, with £24,000 already sold and gone for good.
Suspended Jail Term and Heavy Compensation
McNally kept mum during police interviews but later pleaded guilty. At Manchester Crown Court, he was handed a 10-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months. On top, he must complete 250 hours of unpaid work and cough up £24,676.35 in compensation to Manchester City.
“It is a matter of profound shame for him personally and professionally. He wishes to apologise to all those affected by his conduct. His remorse is genuine and sincere,” said his lawyer Dan Calder.
