East Sussex Pervert Jailed for Secretly Filming Women and Abusing Young Girl
A sick cleaner from East Sussex has been locked up for six years after secretly filming women and children and abusing a young girl. Laurence Wheeler, 32, was caught following a Sussex Police probe that uncovered his horrifying crimes.
Wheeler’s Disturbing Crimes Revealed
Wheeler, from Mortimer Gardens, Polegate, pleaded guilty to multiple charges including three counts of possessing indecent images of children, five counts of voyeurism, and two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. The offences spanned three years.
His vile activities included filming three women covertly in 2017 using a hidden bathroom camera in Hove, and secretly filming children in London swimming pool changing rooms. Police also discovered over 500 indecent images of children on his devices and disturbing videos showing indecent acts with a young girl in 2018.
Justice Served – Long Jail Term and Lifetime Restrictions
Wheeler appeared via video link at Hove Crown Court on 30 April and was sentenced to six years in prison plus an extra two years on extended licence. He must serve two-thirds of his sentence before parole eligibility.
He will remain on the sex offenders register for life and is slapped with a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order. This severely limits his access to females and bans him from various communication devices.
Police Praise Hard Work Behind the Scenes
Detective Constable Matt Digweed of Brighton Safeguarding Investigations Unit said: “Wheeler abused a trusting young girl and systematically invaded the privacy of women and children for his sick pleasure. His actions have devastated the victim and her family.”
“Faced with our detailed investigation, he had little choice but to plead guilty, which reduced his sentence. He is now safely away from potential victims, and we have systems in place to monitor him when released.”
Wheeler was first arrested in May last year at a family home in Croydon after Sussex Police received intelligence on his activities. This grim case highlights ongoing challenges in protecting vulnerable victims from exploitation.
