Career Criminal Locked Up After Brazen Hospital Escape and Burglaries

A hardened career criminal has finally been handed a hefty six-year, nine-month jail sentence—after trying to dodge the law by discharging himself from hospital following a nasty car crash. But even a hospital stint didn’t stop him from stealing.

George Dunn’s Crime Spree Terrorises Kent

George Dunn, 42, went on a crime rampage across Tonbridge, Cranbrook, Paddock Wood, and Ashford between June and July 2025. In just three weeks, he broke into five homes and grabbed over £3,000 worth of valuables—jewellery, watches, handbags, bank cards, and even war medals.

Police tracked his trail using CCTV footage and DNA found at the scenes, including a glove left behind and his blood at multiple locations.

Crash, Hospital Escape and Immediate Return to Crime

On 20 July, Dunn’s spree hit a new low when he crashed his car into a wall and fence in Tunbridge Wells—while disqualified and uninsured. Despite serious injuries, he tried to flee emergency services and was taken to a London hospital.

Weeks later, Dunn discharged himself before being fit for questioning — and wasted no time launching another burglary at a home in Biddenden. A quick-thinking neighbour caught him tumbling from a window during the break-in.

Justice Served at Maidstone Crown Court

Police arrested Dunn on 15 October. He pleaded guilty to six counts of burglary and multiple driving offences. The court also examined eight other burglaries linked to him.

Detective Inspector Lisa Featherstone said: “Dunn is a prolific offender determined to continue his invasive crimes. Not even a life-changing injury stopped him. He discharged himself from hospital to evade consequences—and to keep offending. This was a lengthy investigation, but officers worked tirelessly to bring him to justice. I thank the victims for their support and hope they find comfort now that Dunn is behind bars.”
