Husband Confesses to Murdering Wife, Found Dead in South London Attic
Shane Simmonds Pleads Guilty at Old Bailey
Shane Simmonds has shockingly admitted to murdering his 32-year-old wife, Tia Simmonds. Her body was found hidden in the attic of their Forest Hill, South-East London home earlier this year. On the first day of his trial at the Old Bailey, 39-year-old Simmonds dropped his earlier claim of diminished responsibility and pleaded guilty to murder after prosecutors rejected his defence.
Body Discovered, Arrest Made Same Day
Tia’s lifeless body was discovered under clothing in the attic on January 3, 2024. Shane handed himself in to police that very day and was arrested. Just before his trial began, Judge Philip Katz KC told the jury Simmonds had changed his plea to guilty, scrapping the need for a full trial. He will be sentenced on October 17, with a life sentence expected.
Disturbing Past and Unclear Motives
Earlier, Simmonds admitted to two counts of rape involving a different woman, whose identity is being protected. His defence lawyer Jonathan Higgs KC called the case “disturbing” and admitted the reason behind the brutal murder remains unclear. Questions still linger over what drove Simmonds to commit the horrific crime.
Family Heartbroken, Justice Awaited
The murder has sent shockwaves through the local community and left Tia’s family grieving deeply. Shane Simmonds now faces life behind bars, with sentencing due to bring a ray of justice for Tia and those she left behind.
