Shoplifting Duo Nabbed in Maidstone Town Centre

A man and a woman were caught red-handed with stolen trousers thanks to eagle-eyed Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) patrolling Maidstone.

Quick-Thinking PCSOs Make the Bust

At around 10.30am on Monday 30 December, PCSOs on Union Street noticed Matthew Stannard, 47, and Kathy Banks, 51, both from Regent Close, carrying what looked like stolen clothing.

Officers swiftly followed up at a nearby department store on Week Street and promptly arrested the pair on suspicion of theft.

Theft Charges and More Trouble for Stannard

Stannard and Banks were charged with stealing clothes worth £225. But that’s not all — Stannard also faces charges for refusing to provide a non-intimate sample during custody for a Class A drugs test.

Both suspects were remanded in custody and will appear via video link at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 31 December.
