Another Arrest in Talbot Green Murder Investigation

Police have made a fresh arrest in the hunt for justice after Joanne Penney was fatally shot in Talbot Green. The shocking killing has now led to six arrests as detectives push forward.

Joanne Penney’s Tragic Death

The 40-year-old was shot dead at a home in Llys Illtyd, Talbot Green on Sunday, 9 March. Her formal identification was confirmed on Thursday, 13 March.

South Wales Police announced that a 20-year-old man from St. Mellons, Cardiff, was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

Ongoing Police Action and Appeals

  • Previously, four suspects in Leicestershire – two women aged 21 and 39, and two men aged 27 and 68 – remain held after magistrates approved extended detention.
  • A sixth man, 42, from Talbot Green, initially arrested on Sunday, has been released without charge relating to the murder but is still on bail for assault allegations.

“Detectives are making significant progress, and although today’s arrest marks an important development, our inquiries continue at pace,” said Detective Chief Superintendent Ceri Hughes. “A dedicated team is working tirelessly to establish exactly what happened and bring those responsible to justice.”

Police Seek Witnesses and Dashcam Footage

Detectives are especially interested in two cars believed to have travelled from Leicester to South Wales on the day of the shooting (Sunday, 9 March): a beige Nissan Note (BK61 ZDC) and a black Volvo XC40 (FD24 PZF).

Detective Hughes urged locals: “We want to hear from anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage of these vehicles around Llys Illtyd and the nearby retail park between 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm on Sunday.”
