Teen thugs jailed for savage train knife attack that left victim blind in one eye
Three youths have been locked up after a brutal stabbing onboard a London train left an 18-year-old victim permanently blind in one eye.
Knife gang attack on northbound train
The shocking assault happened just after 7pm on September 24 when the victim, aged 18, was sitting with his electric scooter on a northbound service leaving 1 Park station in North London.
Jaheim Smith-Williams, 18, and Gabriel Burke-Georgiou, 18, both aged 17 at the time, confronted the victim. Burke-Georgiou began the attack while Smith-Williams brandished a Rambo-style knife, stabbing the victim multiple times.
A 15-year-old accomplice, who cannot be named for legal reasons, joined in after pulling out a long-bladed machete.
Passengers flee as attack unfolds
Nearby passengers scrambled to safety, blocking the younger boy from joining the assault initially. The vicious trio forced the victim backwards along the carriage, leaving him on the floor, clutching his injured left eye.
They fled at Meridian Water station, with Burke-Georgiou stealing the victim’s electric scooter as they escaped.
Victim left with life-altering injuries
The victim managed to stagger off the train and was found collapsed outside a supermarket opposite the station. He was rushed to a local hospital with stab wounds to his shoulder, head, hand, and left eye.
Police recovered the knives used in the attack the following day near Meridian Water station.
Perpetrators sentenced to 18 years behind bars
All three attackers, linked to rival gangs and known to their victim, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
At London’s Old Bailey last Friday, Smith-Williams and Burke-Georgiou were sentenced to six years and nine months each. The 15-year-old received five years and one month.
BTP Detective Constable Nick Barr said: “This was a premeditated and vicious attack on a busy train resulting in life-changing injuries for the victim. It was traumatic for witnesses, and I thank them for helping us bring these offenders to justice.”
He urged the public to stay vigilant, saying: “Thankfully, incidents like this are rare on the railway. Please report any suspicious behaviour by texting 61016 or call 999 in an emergency.”
