Two Men Arrested After Wallasey Shooting
Two men have been arrested following a shooting that left a man injured in Wallasey last night. The gunfire erupted on Lucerne Road just before 11:30pm on Saturday, June 29.
Man Shot in Leg, Forensics on Scene
Police rushed to reports of a man shot in the leg. The 33-year-old victim, from Sheffield, managed to get to Wheatland Lane, where passersby stopped to help and called emergency services. He was taken to hospital with a non-life-threatening leg injury.
Crime Scene Investigators are combing the area for evidence and conducting house-to-house inquiries. Detectives are also checking CCTV footage to piece together what happened.
Burnt-Out Stolen Car Found Nearby
Minutes after the shooting, a stolen Nissan Navara was found torched on Clayton Road, less than a mile from the scene. Police are appealing to anyone who saw the vehicle abandoned or set on fire to come forward. Dashcam footage from drivers in the area could be crucial.
Police Tighten Grip as Investigation Continues
“Our inquiries are in the very early stages,” said Detective Chief Inspector Mike Dalton. “Two men from Sheffield met with a group on Lucerne Road before the firearm was discharged.”
Both suspects—aged 33 and 35, from Sheffield—are in custody. The younger man faces charges for possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply. The elder is held on suspicion of Class A drugs possession and carrying an imitation firearm with intent.
“Merseyside Police will not tolerate firearms on our streets,” added DCI Dalton. “We are relentless in bringing those responsible for gun crime to justice.”
Local policing boss, Chief Inspector Chris Ruane, confirmed stepped-up patrols and community engagement in the area. “We are committed to disrupting serious and organised crime through targeted operations,” he said.
