Biker Bandits Behind Bars After Spate of Thefts and Dangerous Driving

Alfie Bruynel, 20, from Tadworth Court, N11, has been jailed for two years and banned from driving for 18 months. Meanwhile, David Curtis, 20, of Holloway Road, N19, was handed a 12-month prison sentence plus an extra three months for breaching a suspended sentence. Both were sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court in January.

Crime Spree Caught on CCTV

Bruynel pleaded guilty to a slew of offences including aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified, insurance violations, two counts of motor vehicle theft, handling stolen goods, and possession of cannabis. Curtis admitted to stealing three motor vehicles, a pedal cycle, going equipped for theft, and handling stolen items.

The criminal pair first came under police scrutiny in March 2020. Venice Investigation Team launched a covert probe tracking their moves back to October 2019. They used CCTV evidence to connect Curtis and Bruynel to several thefts including a Brompton bike and high-value motorcycles stolen across London.

Dangerous Driving and Armed with Tools

On 30 March 2020, Bruynel was spotted doing wheelies on a stolen Piaggio Vespa in N7, putting lives at risk. Curtis was caught riding a stolen £14,000 BMW motorbike while carrying an angle grinder and hammer, tools often linked to car crime.

The pair also threatened a vehicle recovery driver after re-stealing a recovered moped, showing blatant disregard for law enforcement efforts.

Police Praise Vigilance as Justice Prevails

PC Kate Dennell, investigator from the Venice Team, said: “This is an excellent result that puts two criminals behind bars. Both have committed multiple crimes over a period of months and this kind of behaviour has no place on our streets.

“The effects of becoming a victim of theft often last far beyond the replacement of the stolen items. I hope both of these men use this time to realise the impact that their crimes have on the people of London.”
