Brutal Home Invasion Ends in Jail for Hull Thugs
Two Men Jailed After Violent Raid on Couple
Scott Thomas, 31, homeless in Hull, and Colin Mellors, 41, from Belmont Street, Hull, have been locked up following a vicious home invasion. The jury at Hull Crown Court found both men guilty after a week-long trial.
Knife-Wielding Attack in Couple’s Own Home
On the night of 16 August last year, a man returned home around 10.30pm to find two intruders – Thomas and Mellors – waiting. His partner had been punched in the face, tied up with cable ties, and gagged.
Thomas held a knife to the man’s throat while Mellors ransacked the house, demanding cash. They escaped with just £40.
Police Crack Down Leads to Arrests and Conviction
After a thorough investigation, police arrested Thomas on 26 August and Mellors on 12 December. Both were charged and remanded in custody.
Detective Constable Downs said: “This was a shocking and violent attack on a couple in their own home. I commend them for their bravery throughout the investigation.”
“Thomas and Mellors showed no remorse, pleading not guilty and forcing the couple to relive their nightmare during the trial.”
“Now they’re behind bars for a long time. This sends a clear message: violence won’t be tolerated, and we will fight to keep our communities safe.”
