Woman Guilty of Manslaughter After Fatal Motorbike Crash in Kingstanding
A woman has been found guilty of manslaughter following a deadly collision that saw a man knocked off his motorbike in Kingstanding last May.
High-Speed Chase Ends in Tragedy
Thomas Maguire, 30, was riding along Kings Road on 18 May when Kerry Fair, 39, slammed her car into his bike. Fair was chasing Thomas after being told he had stolen the motorbike from her daughter’s boyfriend hours earlier.
Before the crash, Fair was spotted racing at 76 to 86 mph in a 30 mph zone while driving a Ford Focus in pursuit of Thomas.
Crash and Consequences
The impact threw Thomas off the bike. Fair fled the scene, abandoning her car with the engine running and steering locked on the roadside. Friends rushed Thomas to hospital, where he fought for his life in critical condition for three weeks before dying on 9 June from his injuries.
Justice Served at Birmingham Crown Court
Fair’s wallet was found in the car, leading to her arrest shortly after the incident. Today, 7 March, she was found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court.
“At the speed she was travelling, at the very least she was reckless to the fact Thomas would be injured as a result of her actions that night,” said Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood from the Homicide Team.
“Had Fair applied emergency braking when she realised she was gaining rapidly on the motorbike, the collision could have been completely avoided, which inevitably could have prevented Thomas from being injured.”
“Our thoughts remain with the family of Thomas and I hope today’s verdict can bring them some closure.”
Fair is set to be sentenced on Tuesday, 14 March.
