Kent Police Crack Down on Troublemakers in Maidstone Town Centre
Kent Police’s Problem Solving Task Force hit the streets of Maidstone town centre on Tuesday 10 August 2021. The team, made up mostly of police community support officers (PCSOs), is determined to tackle local troublemakers and boost residents’ safety.
Zero Tolerance on Drinking, Begging and Anti-Social Behaviour
The PCSOs have been chatting with residents, businesses, and visitors to pinpoint the biggest issues. They’re enforcing the Public Space Protection Order, which bans alcohol consumption and begging in town centre public areas.
The task force also monitors individuals under Community Protection Warnings to make sure they follow rules designed to prevent crime and disorderly conduct.
Knife Sweeps and Road Safety Crackdowns
Tackling violent crime head-on, officers have carried out knife sweeps around the town. During these searches, they found and seized a hidden bladed weapon in Brenchley Gardens.
On 20 August, officers teamed up with Kent County Council in Week Street, offering young people crucial crime prevention advice focused on knife crime.
They’ve also targeted reckless vehicle use. On 15 August, a man caught riding dangerously on Sandling Road received a formal warning — with his motorcycle set for seizure if he keeps endangering others.
Police Sergeant Phil Morley: “Making a Real Difference”
“The team was launched in 2021 to tackle the things that matter most to residents, making a meaningful difference and leaving communities more resilient.”
“Key to our work is engaging with local people, identifying their biggest concerns, and working with partners to take effective action.”
“Residents have told us they feel reassured seeing more police around and that more families are using local parks as a result.”
“We’ll keep up the pressure in Maidstone. Anyone with concerns should speak to our patrols, report via our website, or call 101.”
