Teen Busted in Tax Refund Scam Sting

Met Police cyber detectives have arrested an 18-year-old man for allegedly running a fake HMRC tax refund website. The dodgy site was designed to swipe bank details from unsuspecting victims.

The Met’s Cyber Crime Unit launched an investigation after a tip-off on 14 April. After weeks of undercover work, officers raided a Lewisham home on 30 June.

Man in Custody, Now Released

The teenager was arrested for fraud by false representation. He was taken to a south London police station and grilled before being released under investigation as inquiries continue.

Police warn the public to stay vigilant and report suspicious websites promising “too good to be true” tax refunds.
