Women Reported Being Injected on Nights Out in Brighton and Eastbourne
Several women have come forward claiming they were injected while enjoying nights out in Brighton and Eastbourne. The alarming incidents began on the night of Tuesday, October 19, into the early hours of Wednesday, October 20, with two reports of women feeling unwell after nights out in Brighton city centre.
In the days that followed, another four women have reported being injected during nights out in Brighton. Meanwhile, a woman in Eastbourne reported a similar incident on Saturday, October 23.
Police Intensify Patrols to Combat Spiking
Detectives are actively supporting the victims and investigating these disturbing reports. All possible leads are being thoroughly examined in what looks like a worrying series of injection-based attacks.
Chief Superintendent Justin Burtenshaw, divisional commander for Brighton and Hove, said: “Everybody has the right to enjoy a night out in safety and we fully understand the concerns around these troubling reports, not only in Sussex but across the country.”
He added the police have stepped up targeted visible patrols around bars, clubs, and restaurants throughout the week and weekends. Licensing teams are also working with venues to raise awareness and brief security staff before opening to ensure safety measures are robust.
Safe Spaces and Encouraging Reporting
Unannounced licensing checks happen throughout the night to keep venues safe. Police encourage anyone who spots suspicious behaviour to speak to officers or venue security immediately. A dedicated Safe Space at St Paul’s Church on West Street supports people feeling vulnerable during nights out.
“If you believe you have been a victim of spiking, please report it to police or bar staff immediately,” Burtenshaw urged. Early reporting helps gather crucial evidence before any drugs leave the victim’s system.
Reports can be made online, via 101, or by dialing 999 in an emergency.
