Man Arrested After Brutal Assault at West Wight Bus Stop
A man has been arrested following a shocking assault at a Yarmouth bus stop that left a woman seriously injured. Police have cordoned off the bus shelter as officers investigate the violent incident captured on CCTV just before 11pm on Sunday.
Violent Attack Sparks Major Police Response
Witnesses were left stunned as emergency services flooded the scene near Yarmouth’s bus station. Five police vehicles and the Isle of Wight dog unit joined two ambulances in a swift response to the serious assault.
Paramedics treated the female victim, believed to be in her 20s, at the scene before rushing her to St Mary’s Hospital with a severe head injury. Pools of blood and handprints marked the blood-splattered bus shelter, now sealed off with police tape.
Two Arrested and Held in Custody
The Isle of Wight Police quickly arrested a 29-year-old man suspected of causing grievous bodily harm. A 28-year-old woman from Totland Bay was also arrested on suspicion of assault. Both remain in custody undergoing questioning.
“We were called at 10.04pm last night to reports of a woman suffering a head injury near the bus station in Yarmouth,” a Hampshire Police spokesman said.
“The woman was taken to hospital for treatment. A man and a woman have been arrested and remain in custody.”
