One Year On: Police Hunt Key Witness Over Deadly North London Bike Crash
Detectives are making a fresh appeal one year after a motorcycle crash on the A406 in north London claimed the life of 25-year-old Goncalo Jose Pereira Leandro.
Police Seek Dash Cam Footage From Crucial Witness
Detective Sergeant Nush Puvitharan of the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “On the anniversary of this collision that claimed a young man’s life, we have issued an image of a man we would like to speak with, and possibly obtain dash cam footage from.”
The man, spotted as part of a large group of motorcyclists on the A406 at the time, was in the perfect spot to witness the crash. Police believe he may have dash cam footage crucial to cracking the case.
“I want to be clear, he is a potential witness and not wanted for any offence,” said DS Puvitharan. “His account or footage could bring clarity and peace to the family of the man who sadly died.”
The Fatal Crash and Ongoing Investigation
- On Sunday 30 May, around 150 bikers gathered on the A406 late morning before setting off together.
- At Drury Way, Wembley, two motorcycles collided, sparking the emergency response at 11:43am.
- Despite efforts, Goncalo was pronounced dead at the scene. The second rider was hospitalised but survived.
Police have sifted through social media videos but failed to find any showing the actual moment of impact.
“We’re not interested in the ride-out offences, only how the collision happened,” said DS Puvitharan. “We urge the witness or anyone with footage to come forward.”
Family Plea: Help Us Find the Truth
A spokesperson for Goncalo’s family said: “The loss of Goncalo is still too hurtful to put into words. He was a loving son pursuing his passion for bikes. His death has deeply impacted us all. We urge anyone with footage to come forward.”
