Kent Police Crack Down on Dangerous Riding Over Easter Weekend
Bikers and Drivers Put on Notice
Easter weekend is a hotspot for organised bike rides across Kent. This year, police were out in force to keep riders safe and ensure drivers followed the rules. Motorcycle officers stopped riders at Blue Bell Hill services between Chatham and Maidstone, dishing out advice on legal number plates, exhausts, and more.
Targeted Road Patrols and Speed Checks
High-visibility patrols prowled the roads between Ashford and key routes, focusing enforcement on the A2070. Speed traps caught drivers flying through Appledore, Ashford town centre, Charing, and Harrietsham.
Traffic Offences Mount Up
The crackdown saw 19 fines handed out for speeding alone. Other offenders faced penalties for not wearing seatbelts, failing to secure infants properly, and various other breaches. One car was seized for lacking proper documentation.
Safety First, Says Sgt Grant Steele
“The safety of all road users is our top priority,” said Sergeant Grant Steele of the Roads Policing Unit. “We welcomed positive and friendly engagement with motorcyclists and motorists alike at these stops.
“Motorcyclists are especially vulnerable in crashes. We’re committed to educating riders on safe practices while cracking down on drivers who add risk by speeding or using mobiles behind the wheel.”
“Operations like this will continue as we work to reduce collisions and keep Kent’s roads safe.”
