Murder Suspect Bailed as Second Man Arrested after Swindon Hit-and-Run Death

A murder suspect has been released on bail while detectives arrest a second man over the death of a 75-year-old in north Swindon. The elderly victim died in hospital after a hit-and-run collision on a quiet residential street last Sunday.

Hit-and-Run Horror on Swindon Street

The crash happened just before 9pm at the junction of Southernwood Drive and Westfield Way. A blue Vauxhall Corsa slammed into a 75-year-old passenger of a red Toyota Yaris. The man had got out of the Yaris to exchange details when the Corsa sped off, striking him.

The victim was rushed to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, but doctors could not save him. He passed away on Monday evening.

Second Arrest Made as Investigation Continues

Last night (Tuesday 10 July), police arrested a 24-year-old London man on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody at Gablecross Police Station. Meanwhile, the 21-year-old Swindon man first arrested has now been bailed pending further inquiries.

Detective Inspector Jim Taylor, head of the Brunel Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “My team are working tirelessly on this investigation which is making good progress.”

“I’d like to thank those who have already provided information. Even with two arrests, I urge anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward. That small detail could be crucial in delivering justice for the victim and his family.”
