War Memorial Defaced in Hayes: Police Hunt Vandal
Police are on the hunt after a war memorial in Hayes, northwest London, was senselessly vandalised with permanent marker pen.
Childish Scribbles Shock Community
A member of the public spotted the childish scrawls on the memorial in Church Road, UB3, and reported it to police on Monday, 4 May. The graffiti includes strange tags like “Lord Enki” and “State of Ari”, along with other illegible words, all daubed across the plinth.
Disrespectful Attack on WWI & WWII Heroes
The memorial bears the names of local soldiers who sacrificed their lives in both World Wars. The vandalism comes just days after the 75th anniversary of VE Day, making the attack even more shocking.
“This was a senseless and disrespectful act,” said PC Sean Creaby from the Met’s Hayes Safer Neighbourhood Team. “I’m at a loss why anyone would target a War Memorial, especially at a time when we should be remembering those who gave their lives for our country.”
“It’s not just stupid – it’s criminal damage. Those responsible will face consequences.”
Police Appeal: Spot the Tags, Help Catch the Culprits
Officers want anyone who recognises the handwriting or tags to come forward. “We understand how much this memorial means to the community and we care about it just as much,” said PC Creaby.
