Police are busting rumours swirling on social media that a man who fell ill during yesterday’s Trafalgar Square protest has died. It’s simply not true.

Officers tried to question the man after a traffic cone was hurled in their direction. He then bolted but was quickly caught and detained.

Man Falls Ill in Custody, Hospitalised, Then Returns to Police Custody

While being arrested, the man became unwell. He was rushed to a south London hospital for treatment. After recovery, he was sent back into police custody.

The man remains in custody, arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and possessing Class A drugs. The Directorate of Professional Standards has been alerted. Officers’ bodycam footage will undergo a rapid review, as is standard procedure.
