£40 Million Worth of Cocaine-Laced Bananas Seized in UK Drug Haul
Colombian Shipment Intercepted on UK Soil
A massive drug bust stopped a shipment of bananas smuggled from Colombia before it reached the Netherlands. The National Crime Agency (NCA) intercepted the cargo on Tuesday, July 26, preventing a staggering haul from hitting UK streets.
Millions Stopped in Their Tracks
Officials estimate that once the batch was cut and distributed, the street value of the cocaine hidden inside would have topped £40 million. These drugs were set to fuel gangs linked to violence and exploitation across communities.
NCA Cracks Down on Criminal Networks
Adam Berry, NCA Branch Operations Manager, said:
“Withdrawing a consignment of this size would have dealt a significant blow to the criminal network involved in this shipment, preventing them from making millions of pounds that could have been invested in further criminality.”
The NCA continues to work closely with partners to disrupt the pipeline from international cartels to street-level dealers, safeguarding communities from the devastating impacts of Class A drugs.
