Teen Caught Red-Handed with 16-Inch Machete in Croydon

Knife Sweep Uncovers Dangerous Weapon

Croydon’s Violence Suppression Unit (VSU) made a shocking discovery on Drummond Road last Monday evening. While on a weapons sweep at 7pm, officers spotted a group of young men who quickly changed direction and then split up. When approached, one 17-year-old took off running.

After a brief chase, police stopped him and found a massive 16-inch machete hidden on his person. The terrifying blade was immediately seized.

Arrest Made Amid Rising Knife Crime

The teenager was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and class B drugs. He remains in police custody as investigations continue.

The search was authorised under a Section 60 order, in response to several recent knife-related incidents in the area.

Police Praise Stop and Search Powers

Inspector Kathy Morteo emphasised the importance of stop and search in keeping communities safe.

“This stop shows the effectiveness and value of stop and search and how it can keep our communities safe. We may not have found the blade if it wasn’t for the powers we have under stop and search,” she said.

She added that officers will also look at supporting the young suspect’s welfare as part of the investigation.

VSU Continues the Fight Against Violence

The dedicated Violence Suppression Units work round the clock across London to tackle violent crime. Their mission is to track down offenders, support victims, and keep communities safe.

But police stress they can’t do it alone. Anyone with information on violent crimes or weapon carriers is urged to come forward and help protect young lives in the community.
