Thief Strikes 1943 B-17 Plane Crash Site in Sandwich Bay

Kent Police are hunting crooks who stripped parts from a historic B-17 bomber wreck in Sandwich Bay. The plane, which smashed into the bay during World War II in 1943, has been targeted by looters using digging gear between May 28 and 29, 2021.

Officials say excavation equipment was used to rip out pieces of the aircraft’s infrastructure. The theft has sparked fresh investigations by police who are desperate for leads to catch those responsible.

To crack the case, Kent Police have released a picture of a man they want to speak to about the incident. Anyone with tips is urged to contact them on 01843 222289, quoting reference 46/92766/21.
