Met Police Ready for Euro 2020 Chaos: “Stay Safe or Stay Away!”
Chief Inspector’s Warning: Enjoy Euros Responsibly
Chief Inspector Joe Stokoe, the Met’s Euro 2020 policing spokesperson, has issued a blunt message ahead of football fever hitting London. “We’re thrilled to host the Euros, a wait everyone’s felt for years. We know excitement’s high, but please look after yourselves and others,” he said.
Stokoe urged fans to speak to officers if they spot anything suspicious. “Stay vigilant, stay safe, and remember the weather won’t be kind,” he warned.
Respect the City and Follow Covid Rules
Not everyone in London will be watching the matches. Stokoe reminded fans to be respectful to those who aren’t onboard with the football madness.
He also stressed that London remains in a public health crisis. “Follow government guidelines, keep socially distanced and act responsibly,” he said.
No Tickets? Don’t Come to London!
Police have contingency plans for all sorts of incidents. But the message is clear: if you don’t have a ticket for the match, fan zone, or an official venue, don’t come to London. Otherwise, you risk missing the game entirely.
Last night, the Met imposed a Section 35 dispersal order in key areas, effective until 3pm Saturday 19 June, to nip trouble in the bud. “We have a flexible policing plan to keep crime and disorder down,” said Stokoe.
Early Arrests Signal Tight Security
- A 25-year-old was nabbed in Hyde Park for indecent exposure. He was cautioned and released.
- Another man is locked up after trying to steal a police officer’s hat and assaulting emergency workers while trying to avoid arrest.
The police are making it crystal clear: London’s ready to host, but chaos won’t be tolerated.
