Drunk Dial Chaos: Man Calls 999 a Whopping 68 Times in 90 Minutes!

Newark Man’s Bizarre 999 Spree

A Newark resident caused a stir last September by repeatedly calling the 999 control room. The man rang 68 times in just 90 minutes before officers finally visited his home. When they arrived, they found him drunk and comfortably in bed – no emergency required. Despite attempts to get to the bottom of his calls, he often hung up on officers.

Other Outrageous 999 Calls

  • Mansfield Shed Rescue: A drunk man rang 999 claiming he was stuck in his shed and “didn’t know where he was.” He even asked officers for more beer but later admitted he didn’t need police help.
  • Fuel Frustration: A motorist called cops after a city centre garage refused his fuel voucher. The complaint landed police resources on a non-crime matter.

Police Chief Slams Hoax and Trivial Calls

“These calls take away valuable time from our officers who need to attend real emergencies or crimes that affect our residents,” said Chief Inspector Christopher Sullivan.

“The 999 number isn’t for trivial matters. Calling 68 times while drunk is completely unacceptable and a waste of resources.”

With Christmas approaching, police face increased demand. Sullivan urged: “Always call 999 only if a crime is in progress or there is an immediate risk to life or safety.”
