Police Release Images of Lucy McHugh’s Missing Clothes in Shocking Southampton Murder Case
Police have unveiled the exact clothing Lucy McHugh wore before her tragic death in Southampton. The 13-year-old’s body was discovered in woodland near the Sports Centre, and officers are desperate to trace her steps between 9.30am on Wednesday 25 July—when she left her Mansel Road East home—and 7.45am the following day.
What Lucy Was Wearing
- Black jacket with white sleeves featuring the band’s logo Falling in Reverse on the front and “RADKE 01” in red on the back
- White vest top
- Camouflage leggings
- Black and white Jordan 23 trainers
Officers noted Lucy’s hair was blonder than in earlier photos released, and she was wearing large hooped earrings.
Stab Wounds Cause of Death – Police Hunt Murder Weapon
Detectives confirmed Lucy died from stab wounds. They are urgently seeking anyone who may have found a sharp weapon—knife, scissors, or other bladed tool—especially around the Sports Centre area. Even if the item has been discarded, police say they will try to recover it.
“As we continue to investigate the circumstances of Lucy’s tragic death, we are repeating our appeal for the public’s help,” Detective Superintendent Paul Barton said.
“We’re hoping the images and descriptions of the clothing she was last seen wearing will jog people’s memories. If you saw Lucy, had contact with her, or know her movements on 25 July, please get in touch.”
“We know how shocked the community is and understand emotions are running high. But we ask people not to speculate on social media—it hinders the investigation and is disrespectful to Lucy’s family.”
“Please let us do our job and find out what happened to Lucy.”
Man Arrested and Family Seeks Privacy
A 24-year-old Southampton man is currently in custody, arrested on suspicion of murder and sexual activity with a child. Police continue their inquiries as Lucy’s family appeals for privacy during this heartbreaking time.
