Fatal Hit-and-Run in Dublin Sparks Garda Hunt
Gardaí are racing to find the driver behind a deadly hit-and-run on Phibsborough Road, north Dublin, that killed a woman in her 60s last night. The victim was out socialising with her husband when tragedy struck.
Silver Honda Civic Flies Through Junction, Then Flees Scene
The crash happened just after 9pm as the car—a 2007 silver Honda Civic with Dublin plates—raced through the Cross Guns Bridge junction onto Phibsborough Road. The woman, crossing the road to catch a bus home after dinner with her retired garda husband, was struck and left fatally injured. The driver sped off, leaving the scene.
CCTV and Forensics Clue Gardaí In
CCTV caught the moments before the crash, helping investigators piece together events. The abandoned Honda was found on nearby Avondale Road. Gardaí are now running forensic checks on the vehicle, which was bought recently but not yet registered. Tracing the owner is a top priority.
Witnesses Urged to Help as Probe Deepens
- The crash scene remains cordoned off for forensic work.
- No arrests so far.
- Witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from 8:30pm to 9:30pm in the area are asked to contact Mountjoy Gardaí immediately.
Meanwhile, the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) has launched a separate probe into how officers handled the vehicle before the crash, following a referral from An Garda Síochána. The investigation is ongoing.
