Shock on London Tube: Man Caught Smoking Crack Pipe in Full View of Commuters

A jaw-dropping moment was caught on camera when a man openly smoked from a suspected crack pipe on a packed London Underground train. Passengers stared in stunned silence as the man, wearing a green beanie and sitting in a priority seat, casually puffed on the pipe during the busy Northern Line journey from Stockwell to London Bridge in December 2023.

Commuters Stunned as Man Smokes on Busy Train

Passenger Alex Yates filmed the unsettling scene and described the surreal experience:

“It was a busy Tube and I saw a big gap between this man and the other passengers and was unsure why. I then smelled a very strong chemical smell – when I looked up, I was in complete disbelief that this man had pulled out a crack pipe and began smoking it. What I found most fascinating was everyone’s incredibly British response of simply pretending the issue didn’t exist. There wasn’t a single reaction aside from a few funny exchanged looks.”

Rising Drug Use on London’s Public Transport Sparks Outrage

This footage has reignited fears over growing drug use across London’s transport network. Over recent weeks, multiple videos have surfaced showing passengers lighting up illegal substances on trains and buses. Commuters report frequent cannabis smells on the Elizabeth, Circle, and District lines, with some calling it a “twice-weekly occurrence.”

Many now label the problem an epidemic of antisocial and illegal behaviour sweeping the capital’s transport system.

TfL and Police Respond to Drug Use Crisis

Transport for London (TfL) condemned the conduct and promised action to keep travellers safe:

“We want all customers to feel safe when travelling and we understand the alarm this kind of behaviour could cause. We are working with the police, specialist teams and other agencies to help move vulnerable people away from our network and into help and support.”

A TfL spokesperson added:

“Clearly, any increase in the number of incidents — whether on the Tube, buses or trams — is concerning. British Transport Police, alongside TfL enforcement officers, are actively working to address these issues.”

British Transport Police (BTP) have been approached for comment about the Northern Line incident.

Travellers witnessing illegal activity are urged to report it immediately via the BTP text line at 61016 or through the TfL app.
