Three Men Busted in Million-Pound Elderly Scam Crackdown
Three men in their 40s were arrested for allegedly ripping off elderly victims out of nearly £1 million in a ruthless doorstep trading scam. The suspects were arrested in dawn raids on Wednesday, 9 May, in a joint swoop by the Metropolitan Police, Brent and Harrow Trading Standards, and South Wales Police.
Multi-Force Raids Target Callous Criminals
The men were taken into custody at West London and South Wales police stations. Police revealed the arrests are part of a wider operation to dismantle a criminal gang believed to have conned elderly homeowners into paying huge sums for unnecessary home repairs and other scams.
The Met’s new Organised Crime Advisers teamed up with detectives from the Organised Crime Command, Brent and Harrow Trading Standards, and South Wales officers to track down the crooks behind the scam.
Victims Aged 85 to 92 Across Multiple Counties
The alleged victims, aged between 85 and 92, live in Harrow, Enfield, Hertfordshire, and Essex. Police and Trading Standards are urging anyone else who may have fallen prey to these fraudsters to come forward.
“The elderly and vulnerable have a right to feel safe from scammers,” said DC Zara Baker from the Met’s Organised Crime Command.
“Today’s operation highlights the commitment of the Metropolitan Police and its partners to tackle this kind of criminality. Our new organised crime advisers will take action to protect vulnerable members of our community.”
Simon Legg, Senior Trading Standards Service Manager for Brent and Harrow, added: “Those who prey on the elderly or vulnerable, extracting money for unnecessary building works and other scams, will not be tolerated.”
Anyone who thinks they might have been targeted is urged to call police on 101.
