A249 Closure Hits Day Two – Reopening Set for Monday Morning
The A249 remains shut for a second day, but good news is on the horizon. The junction is set to fully reopen early Monday, with traffic switching to a shiny new northbound merge. This marks a major step forward in the ongoing roadworks.
Why the Closure? Reducing Long-Term Hassle
The shutdown was essential to push through the next phase of work while keeping two lanes open at the junction. Officials admit the closure has caused traffic jams and apologise for the mess. But they stress this short-term pain will slash disruption over the coming months.
Traffic Changes & Temporary Lights in Place
- A temporary tie-in from the roundabout to the northbound A249 slip road is now running, meaning the eastbound slip road link to the northbound A249 is closed.
- This work was supposed to stretch over two weekends but was squeezed into this week to avoid clashes with the Kent County Show.
- Temporary traffic lights have been installed at the roundabout, especially at the eastbound slip road bottom, to keep traffic flowing and safely stop queues backing onto the M2 motorway.
Expect Delays – Plan Ahead!
Heavy congestion has hit over the last 48 hours, and some delays look set to continue through the weekend. Drivers are urged to plan journeys carefully, seek alternative routes, and follow all traffic signs and controls.
“We thank all motorists for their patience and support as we work to improve this vital stretch of road,” officials said.
The closure remains necessary but on track for completion soon, promising a smoother ride for drivers in the near future.
