British Cargo Ship Verity Sinks After Collision in North Sea
Several people are feared missing after the British cargo ship Verity sank in the North Sea following a crash with another vessel, the Polesie.
Collision Near Heligoland Sparks Rescue Operation
The Verity was sailing from Bremen, Germany, to Immingham, Lincolnshire, when it collided with the Bahamas-flagged Polesie about 14 miles southwest of Heligoland early Tuesday morning. The smash caused the Verity to sink.
Germany’s Central Command for Maritime Emergencies confirmed the urgent rescue mission is underway. Several crew members from the Verity remain missing, while one has been pulled from the water and is receiving medical care.
